An effort to create an endowment fund that would support Jewish organizations nationwide has raised more than $26 million for the Charlotte area, organizers said.
The National Life and Legacy has so far raised more than $1 billion in commitments, organizers said in a news release about the collaboration that Charlotte focus. The $26 million in commitments for the Charlotte-area Jewish community comes from 400 donors.
“We are very honored to be part of such an amazing initiative that has helped to create a culture of philanthropy here in Charlotte and throughout the country,” Phil Warshauer, Executive Director of Foundation for the Charlotte Jewish Community said in a press release.
Since its creation, approximately eight years ago, the LIFE & LEGACY project has received donations from more than 17,000 donors from 63 communities nationwide.
"Providing Jewish organizations with a strategy to help secure their long-term financial goals is absolutely vital, especially now in the middle of an economic crisis," Harold Grinspoon Foundation founder Harold Grinspoon said in the news release. "Supporting our Jewish institutions is critical to ensuring future generations are able to enjoy our rich culture and heritage."
