Food Lion has commenced its annual Orange Bag campaign, a three-week initiative aimed at combating food insecurity. The campaign runs from February 26 to March 18 and involves the sale of specially marked orange bags in stores and online. Food Lion Feeds, the charitable arm of Food Lion established in 2014, aims to provide a minimum of two million meals through this effort.
The initiative supports Feeding America, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States, along with local partner food banks across Food Lion's ten-state operating area. Customers can participate by purchasing orange bags or making cash donations both in-store and online via Food Lion To Go. Additionally, customers have the option to donate specific amounts or round up their purchases at checkout.
Kevin Durkee, Manager of Food Lion Feeds, stated: "Our neighbors deserve access to nutritious foods. When customers purchase a bag of oranges, they help nourish individuals and families in their community who are experiencing hunger."
In addition to the Orange Bag campaign, Food Lion Feeds has launched its sixth season of Score to Give More. This program collaborates with collegiate basketball programs to address food insecurity by providing meals for every free throw made during games.
Since its inception in 2014, Food Lion Feeds has provided over one billion meals and aims to reach 1.5 billion meals by 2025.
