From March 8, 2023 post.

Some of our employees were recognized with Commendations from Police Chief Terry Spry in recognition of their exemplary service in responding to a breaking and entering at A.L. Brown High School on September 2, 2022. Those pictured below received awards and are: TC Lanie Untz, Officer Austin Purser, Officer Sathina Guard, Sergeant Ramsey Nimer, Officer Sam Small, Officer Matt Honeycutt, Officer Jonathan Lambert, Officer Taylor Honeycutt, and Lieutenant Allen Tomlin.

On June 13, 2022, A.L. Brown High School began to experience a rash of break-ins at night where small amounts of cash were taken from various locations inside the school. Several efforts were made to apprehend the suspect but proved to be unsuccessful. Personnel from Kannapolis City Schools provided the police department with a computer connected to the camera system within the high school. The computer was placed in the Communications Center at the police department, so on-duty telecommunicators could monitor the live feed and notify on-duty officers if they observed the suspect in the school at night.

On September 2, 2022, Telecommunicator Lanie Untz noticed the suspect inside the school. She quickly coordinated with Telecommunicator Heather Raffaldt to provide the on-duty patrol shift, Squad D, the suspect description, and location inside the school via police radio. A perimeter was established around the school by Lieutenant Allen Tomlin, Sergeant Ramsey Nimer, and Officers Sathina Guard, Matthew Honeycutt, Taylor Honeycutt, Jonathan Lambert, Austin Purser and Sam Small. The suspect was able to exit the school and after a short foot pursuit was taken into custody without incident. This an outstanding example of a team effort, ultimately leading to the suspect being charged with multiple felonies, one misdemeanor offense and the successful resolution in the break-ins at A.L. Brown High School. The initiative, attention to duty and action by each police department member during this incident reflect the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession.

Congratulations to all!
