What an honor it was to host a special recognition ceremony for Jacob Hinson today in the #RowanCountyNC Board of Commissioners Chambers. Hinson is a recent high school graduate who successfully completed requirements for and was awarded the Bronze and Silver Congressional Award medals.
To receive Silver (and Bronze) medals, participants must complete a minimum of 200 hours (12 months) of voluntary public service, 100 hours (12 months) of personal development, 100 hours (12 months) of physical fitness, and a 3 day (2 night) trip for expedition/exploration.
Representative Ted Budd presented Hinson with a challenge coin bearing the motto esse quam videri, thanking him for being "one who is rather than one who seems and for giving us hope for the next generation". Budd and Hinson also agreed they both have excellent mothers, with Hinson's encouraging him to work toward his goals every step of the way toward this award.
Other elected officials and special guests for the recognition ceremony included Representative Wayne Sasser, Representative Harry Warren, a representative for Senator Carl Ford, Rowan County Board of Commissioners Chairman Greg Edds, China Grove Council Members Arthur Heggins and Rodney Phillips, and Rowan Chamber Director Elaine Spalding.
We are all so proud of this young Rowan Original!
