2022 NC SkillsUSA Masonry Competition

3 1

Masonry students from West Rowan High School competed in the NC SkillsUSA Masonry Competition at the Greensboro Coliseum. West’s very own, Anderson Pruett, won the Advanced Masonry Competition. He competed against forty-seven students in the Masonry II division. He will be headed to Atlanta on June 20-25 to compete in the national event. Anderson has worked extremely hard for this and will also be competing in May in an apprentice competition. If he wins, he and his masonry teacher, Mr. Rodney Harrington, will go to Las Vegas, Nevada, for the National Competition. Anderson takes a lot of pride in his work and works hard to reach his goals.

West Rowan High had several students who competed at the state level. Aaron Russell finished 6th, O’Connor Leonard finished 9th, and Nicholas Sloop finished 10th. All placed in the Advanced Masonry Competition, and the great news is they will be back next year to compete again.

In the Masonry 1 State Competition, Corbin Nations was in 2nd place (and only one point behind 1st place). Dylan Smith was tied for 3rd and ended up in 4th place due to a tie breaker. Isabella Summerall also competed, and although she didn’t place, she worked extremely hard.

Rosty and Charles Menius competed in the Carpentry 1 and Carpentry 2 competition, and both did an amazing job. Charles ended up in 4th place, and although Rosty was not in the top five, he had a great-looking project.

Mr. Harrington and the whole West Rowan Community are extremely proud of these students for all the hard work they have put in and even more proud of the way this group represented West Rowan.
