Spring has sprung and Salisbury Fire Department has safety tips to keep you and your family safe:

  • SMOKE DETECTOR

Every home should have at least one working smoke detector. Change batteries every six months on each smoke detector to ensure it works properly.

Spring has sprung and Salisbury Fire Department has safety tips to keep you and your family safe:

  • PREVENT ELECTRICAL FIRES

Never overload circuits or extension cords. Plug cords directly into a wall socket instead of extension cords. Do not place cords under rugs or in high traffic areas.

  • USE THE GRILL WISELY

When using appliances, follow the manufacturer’s safety precautions. Make sure the grill is set up in an open, outdoor area with nothing flammable nearby.

  • CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE

Close doors at night. Research has proven that a closed bedroom door can help save your life by slowing the spread of flames and prevent heat and smoke from filling your room.

  • PLAN YOUR ESCAPE

Develop and practice a home fire escape plan to ensure everyone knows what to do if the smoke alarm sounds.
