Spencer Fire Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 3.
Around lunch crews responded to a residential structure fire. Chief Lanning arrived on scene to find a one story brick residential with heavy smoke showing from the exterior. The incident was immediately upgraded to a working fire, crews acted swiftly to extinguish the fire and keep it in the room of origin. Due to the contents of the structure, the incident involved the ATF as well as the Cabarrus County Bomb Squad. Once the contents was deemed safe, crews performed additional overhaul and assisted the property owner.
