Rowan County issued the following announcement on Sept. 2.

Fall Plant Sale

It’s time for the annual Fall Plant Sale hosted by the Rowan County Cooperative Extension. Deadline to order is Thursday, October 29, 2020. Plant pick-up date is Thursday, November 5, 2020, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at:

Rowan County Agricultural Center

2727 Old Concord Road

Salisbury, NC 28146

Due to Covid-19, we are requesting that you pay in advance and prior to plant pick up to reduce contact on the day of plant pick-up. Please make checks payable to Rowan CES and mail to Rowan County 4-H 2727-A Old Concord Road, Salisbury, NC 28146. You can also drop off exact cash or check at the Extension office at the same address, M-F 8 AM-5 PM.

Varieties Available - All Plants are Two Years Old 

BUNCH GRAPES: 

Self-Fertile 1-gallon containers $10 each 

  • NIAGARA - Large fruit; large tight clusters; white skin; good flavor and ripens mid to late season. Vigorous growth; very hardy and productive.
  • SUNBELT - Large fruit; small clusters; blue color; sweet; good flavor and ripens early to mid-season. Vigorous growth and very hardy. Similar to Concord but ripens more evenly and better resistance to mildews. Does better in warmer climates than Concord. 
BLUEBERRIES: 

At least two varieties must be planted to ensure cross-pollination

1-gallon containers $10 each 

  • TIFBLUE - Ripens mid to late season; fruit are medium size with good flavor and upright growth. 
  • CLIMAX - Ripens middle of June. Berries are firm with excellent flavor and good color. Upright growth with an open spreading crown. 
  • PREMIER - Ripens early to mid-season; large fruit with excellent color and great flavor. Upright growth and vigorous. 
BLACKBERRIES: 

Self-Fertile 1-gallon containers $10 each. 

  • ARAPAHO - Thornless variety; erect-growing with medium fruit and good flavor. Ripens over a four-week period. 
  • NAVAHO - Thornless variety; medium fruit; ripens late; superior fruit quality. 
  • OUACHITA - Thornless; erect growing with large fruit and very good flavor. Fruit ripens midseason over a five-week period. 
MUSCADINE: 

Self-Fertile 1-gallon containers $10 each

  • CARLOS - Bronze; fruit small to medium; ripen early to midseason; produces clusters; ripens very evenly and is a very heavy producer. Vigorous and cold hardy. 
  • NESBITT - Black; fruit very large; produces cluster; high yields and ripen mid to late season. Vigorous; disease resistant and cold hardy. 
GOJI BERRY: 

Self-Fertile 1-gallon containers $10 each 

  • GOJI - Bright orange-red berries 1/2 to 1 inch long with slight sweet mildly tangy flavor. Good for eating, juice, wine, herbal tea or dried. Grows approximately 8-10 foot in full sun. No known pest or disease problems; high tolerance to drought once established.
