Rowan County issued the following announcement on July 21.
NOTICE is hereby given that the Rowan County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting by remote participation on Monday, August 3, 2020 beginning at 3:00 p.m. During the meeting a public hearing will be held on the following:
In accordance with North Carolina General Statute §158-7.1(c), the purpose of the hearing will be to receive public comments on proposed Economic Development Incentives being considered for Project Sun, a company with existing operations in Rowan County.
Project Sun is expected to (1) create a significant investment in real estate and equipment, in excess of $45 million and (2) create 56 new jobs.
The proposed incentive offer for Project Sun consists of the following:
- An assistance grant that is equal to seventy-five (75) percent of taxes paid on the estimated $45 million taxable expansion. The total grant will be approximately $919,678 paid over a term not to exceed five (5) years.
- Rowan County will apply for a North Carolina Rural Building Reuse Grant on behalf of Project Sun in the amount of $460,000. If awarded, this grant would assist the company in renovating and expanding its current building to accommodate the proposed expansion.
- Rowan County will also hire a professional grant administrator to handle planning and administrative services for the North Carolina Building Reuse Grant for an amount not to exceed $25,000.
Given the COVID-19 Pandemic, written comments will be accepted regarding the incentive between the date of this hearing publication and twenty-four (24) hours after the public hearing.
