The for-profit chain that owns a Salisbury nursing home was crippled by North Carolina’s recent outbreak of COVID-19, but a new lawsuit alleges that the business put profit over safety.
The Salisbury home has a slogan: “Care before corporate," but residents and their families disagree with the statement characterizing The Citadel Salisbury, according to a report from the Charlotte Observer published on WBTV.com on June 13.
Salisbury’s handling of its deadly viral outbreak was unprofessional, the Charlotte Observer reported citing the lawsuit. The lawsuit accuses the nursing home leaders of ignoring potentially life-or-death treatment decisions. The lawsuit also claims that the chain chooses financial concerns over the safety of residents and staff.
The lawsuit also claims violations of the state's “Patients Bill of Rights," the Charlotte Observer reported. The nursing home allegedly contributed to the spread of the coronavirus by functioning with not enough staff members. The staff at the facility is inadequately trained and lacked much-needed supplies, the Charlotte Observer reported.
Salisbury attorney Mona Lisa Wallace claimed that the nursing home medical facilities are subpar and it's “where loved ones and elders are sick and dying even today," the Charlotte Observer reported.
