Rowan County has issued a request for proposals (RFP) numbered 2026-002 for landfill gas to energy projects. The RFP includes a manual and specifications document for interested parties.

The county is seeking solutions that would convert landfill gas into usable energy, aiming to address both environmental concerns and potential energy needs in the area.

Recent educational data from Rowan County school districts show that out of 1,228 senior students who took the science portion of the ACT during the 2022-23 school year, only 12.3% were considered ready for college. For juniors, 10.1% of 1,314 students met this benchmark in science according to data from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).

In reading, 22.6% of seniors and 18.3% of juniors were deemed college-ready after taking the ACT’s reading section (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). Math scores were lower: just 8.5% of seniors and 6.9% of juniors achieved college readiness on the math portion (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).
