January 28, is National Data Privacy Day.

The Kannapolis Police Department would like to share the following tips to help you protect your personal information online:

– Do not click links or open attachments in emails from people you don’t know. If it looks suspicious, it’s best to delete it.

– Prior to making a purchase and sharing sensitive information, research the merchant using a trusted source, like the Better Business Bureau.

– Protect yourself against data loss by making electronic copies – or backups – of important files.

– Keep your security software, web browser, and operating system up to date to defend against viruses and malware.
