During the 2024-25 college basketball season, Food Lion Feeds partnered with 51 collegiate basketball programs, including 15 women’s teams, to tackle food insecurity through the Score to Give More initiative. This effort resulted in the provision of more than 1.6 million meals to those in need. For every free throw scored during the regular season and tournaments, Food Lion Feeds contributed 100 meals, capped at 30,000 meals per team. The initiative, which began in 2019, has since provided over 6.5 million meals. The program benefits campus food pantries or affiliated Feeding America partner food banks in the colleges’ locations. Food Lion Feeds was established in 2014 by Food Lion to address food insecurity in the communities it serves.

“The Score to Give More Program is about raising awareness about food insecurity in our communities and engaging college students in the fight against hunger,” said Kevin Durkee, Manager, Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion. “It also strengthens our college partnerships and supports our students and student-athletes. We are incredibly proud to collaborate with so many colleges dedicated to making a real difference.”

In the 2024-2025 season, the Score to Give More program included partnerships with teams across various states: Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Besides this initiative, Food Lion Feeds also collaborates with colleges through the Sack to Give Back campaign. This campaign donates 1,000 meals for every quarterback sack achieved by the participating institutions, with a cap of 30,000 meals per school.

Food Lion Feeds has provided over 1.5 billion meals since 2014 and aims to donate 3 billion meals by 2032. For further details on Food Lion Feeds’ hunger relief efforts, visit their website.
