Food Lion Feeds has celebrated its 10th annual Feedys Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations for their efforts in fighting hunger across a 10-state region. The event honored food banks, volunteers, community leaders, and Food Lion associates for their contributions to addressing food insecurity.
Kevin Durkee, Manager of Food Lion Feeds, stated, “We believe no one should have to choose between dinner and rent, or gas and groceries.” He emphasized the importance of collaboration in providing nutritious food to communities in need.
Among those recognized was The Agape Center New River Valley in Christiansburg, VA, which received the Food King Feeding Partner Award. This organization has expanded significantly since its founding in 2019, serving over 400 families monthly.
Joseph Goodyear from Livingstones Tabernacle-House of Bread in Hampstead, NC received the Lion Heart Volunteer Award. Under his leadership since 1999, the organization has distributed more than 1.5 million pounds of food.
The Grand Lion for Good Vendor Award went to Freshouse for its support through the annual Food Lion Feeds Orange Bag Campaign. Their donations have translated into thousands of meals for those in need.
Food Lion at Grafton, VA received The Store that Roars Motivational Award for selling over 7,000 Holidays Without Hunger boxes during a holiday campaign. Customer Service Manager Brette Taylor’s leadership was noted as instrumental.
Kathy Whicker from Winston-Salem’s Food Lion was awarded The Meg Ham Caring for Our Communities Award for her extensive volunteer work combating hunger.
Kay Carter of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina was given a Special One-Time Good Neighbor Award for her role in hurricane relief efforts after Hurricane Helene impacted MANNA FoodBank in Asheville.
Since its inception in 2014 by Food Lion to combat food insecurity, Food Lion Feeds has provided over 1.5 billion meals and aims to donate 3 billion meals by 2032.
