The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has announced the distribution of over $1.1 million in grants to 264 organizations as part of its spring/summer grant cycle. These funds are aimed at supporting community feeding partners in their efforts to address hunger and provide nutritional education.

Natasha Brinegar, President of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation and Vice President of Category Management for Meat and Seafood at Food Lion, emphasized the organization’s commitment: “Nourishing the communities we serve is at the heart of everything we do at Food Lion,” she said. She added that these grants help local food banks provide nourishment and nutrition education, addressing food insecurity effectively.

The foundation’s grants assist food banks by providing immediate resources for feeding those in need while also offering education on budgeting, meal planning, nutrition, and cooking techniques. This dual approach aims to promote healthier lifestyles and break the cycle of hunger.

Operating as a 501(c)(3) organization with a volunteer board from various company sectors, the foundation focuses on tackling hunger’s root causes. The grants help feeding organizations enhance their capacity to supply fresh produce and staples, ensuring families have access to nutritious meals. Partner groups also offer nutrition education for better health outcomes.

Since 2014, through partnerships with local and national feeding entities along with customer donations, Food Lion Feeds has provided more than 1.5 billion meals. Their multifaceted efforts include product donations, financial support, disaster relief grants, capital campaign assistance for agencies, and volunteer contributions from associates. Earlier this year, they committed to doubling this impact by delivering a total of 3 billion meals by 2032.

The foundation operates two grant cycles annually. The next application deadline is September 18, 2025, with awards given in December. Eligible nonprofits must be affiliated with Feeding America or United Way and can apply once every twelve months.

Food Lion operates across ten Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states with over 82,000 associates in more than 1,100 stores. Since its founding in Salisbury in 1957 as part of Ahold Delhaize USA’s U.S. division, it has been dedicated to fighting hunger through initiatives like Food Lion Feeds.
